Kensington Palace issues important statement on Princess Kate

Kensington Palace has broken its silence following the backlash over the reporting on Princess Kate’s outfits rather than her charity work.

Earlier this month, The Times reported that the Palace would no longer be releasing details about Kate’s wardrobe when she attends royal engagements, as the Princess wants the focus to remain on her causes rather than her fashion. The report stated that she found it “frustrating and difficult” when the spotlight is instead placed on her appearance.

Since Kate became a member of the royal family following her marriage to Prince William in April 2011, Kensington Palace has routinely released details of the clothes she wears during public engagements. However, a royal insider told the publication: “There is an absolute feeling that it [the public work] is not about what the princess is wearing. She wants the focus to be on the really important issues, the people and the causes she is spotlighting.

“There will always be an appreciation of what the princess is wearing from some of the public and she gets that. But do we need to be officially always saying what she is wearing? No. The style is there but it’s about the substance.”
