A man has been charged following a major police investigation into unlawful burials by Legacy Independent Funeral Directors. Police state that the charge relates to 30 individuals, while there were 172 alleged victims of fraudulent trading.
At a joint press conference with the Crown Prosecution Service, Humberside Police said Robert Bush, 47, has been charged with 64 offences, including 30 counts of preventing a lawful and decent burial and 30 of fraud by false representation, after 35 bodies and suspected human ashes were discovered at his funeral directors in Hull, Humberside Police said.
He has also been charged with one count of fraudulent trading in relation to funeral plans, involving 172 victims, between May 2012 and March 2024, and one count of fraud in relation to human ashes, involving 50 victims, between August 2017 and March 2024, Humberside Police said.
Bush is also accused of two counts of theft from charities between September 2022 and March 2024. He is due to appear at Hull Magistrates’ Court on 25 June.
