Drivers returning home after the holidays have faced significant delays on the M5 in Somerset following a collision. Two of the three lanes on the M5 northbound have been closed due to a multi-vehicle crash between junctions J24 (Bridgwater) and J23 (Dunball).
Emergency services are attending the scene, with National Highways warning of delays of approximately 40 minutes. This incident comes as the Met Office has issued new ice and snow warnings ahead of the weekend.
Icy conditions are expected in northern and western Scotland, the north-west of England, and Northern Ireland, with the warning active from 5pm today until 10am tomorrow. A snow and ice warning has also been issued for parts of northern Scotland between 4pm today and 10am tomorrow.
Meanwhile, passengers travelling with Avanti West Coast today are likely to experience severe disruption due to industrial action by members of the RMT union. The last train of the day is expected to depart before 5pm.
